Organization
The International Brotherhood
of Painters and Allied Trades was chartered on March 15,
1887. Painters Local Union 681
was chartered January 2, 1919.
Nature of Trade
The protection and beautification
of the exteriors and interiors of buildings and structures
of all types and many other surfaces
important to your everyday living is the principle activity
of those working in the painting industry.
Apprenticeship Training
The accepted training
for the painting trade is a formal apprenticeship program
in which the beginner receives on the job training
where they learn all aspects of the trade under the guidance
of skilled craftsmen. The term of apprenticeship is three
years, 6000 hours, of work experience supplemented by a
minimum of 144 hours each year of related classroom instructions,
held two nights a week, September through March.
Qualifications
An applicant must meet the
following qualifications to qualify for the apprenticeship
program:
- Be 17 years of age by date of employment
- High school
diploma or GED
- Valid driver's license
Application, Selection and Hiring Process
Applicants
are taken at the Painters Office located at the address above.
Applicants will be screened through the Apprenticeship
Committee.
