The Lamp of Knowledge Award is sponsored by the Greater Rochester Advocates for Universities and Colleges (GRAUC). This award is given to an individual, business or organization associated with the Chamber who actively supports higher education partnerships in Southeast Minnesota and has shown a commitment to fostering higher education opportunities. Jess Ihrke, Vice President of Marketing and Partner Engagement for Smart HR and Chair of the GRAUC Board of Directors, presented the Lamp of Knowledge Award to Aaron Benike, President of Alvin E. Benike, Inc. Benike continues to make significant contributions to advancing higher education, even more specifically in the construction pathway. He is an active board member with the following organizations in his effort to improve workforce development and advance higher education in Southeast Minnesota: GRAUC, the Chamber, SE MN Workforce Development, Boy Scouts of America Gamehaven Council, Construction Partnership, Board Trustee of the Carpenters and Joiners Apprenticeship and Journeyman Training Trust Fund, Board Member and 2017 Vice Chair of the Associated General Contractors of Minnesota, and Workforce Co-Chair for Journey to Growth. Through his community involvement, Benike is able to give a voice to the construction trades and ensure that there are enough interested and trained workers to fill the gaps that are being left by retirements each year. This allows him to bridge gaps and foster linkages across the various organizations in which he serves to the betterment of our greater community. He is also working towards creating a construction focused Explorer Program that will allow students to participate with the local construction trades to learn more about the career opportunities available in our region. This effort links local organizations such as the construction trades, Gamehaven Council, Construction Partnership and the Chamber. We are very proud of Aaron and we are honored to have Alvin E. Benike, Inc as a CPI Member.
